I am a Norah, who will always love a Nick

Do it: Just pretend for one night to be 21 again.

First of all, I love to go to the movies.  I mean I LOVE to go to the movies.  Ever since I was a kid it was one of my favorite things to do and since 5th grade I was organizing friends to go to the mall and see whatever was playing.  Every now and then you discover a real gem, like Some Kind of Wonderful.  Everyone was on a John Hughes kick but this lesser known gem introduced my Ohio preppy-self into the world of underground bands, a girl who played the drums (like me), repressed high school love and quotes like, "I'd rather be alone then with someone for the wrong reason."  Yes, I soon thereafter started listening to The Smiths.

But the big reason I love movies is they have an ability to totally take me away.  Its a weird day when you wake up in New York City and it starts to feel small.  So the escape to be James Bond or a RocknRolla or discovering Australia can be a thankful release.

But there's no where to run when you're Nick and Norah listening to their infinite playlist.  These were my sidewalks, my clubs.  I've had friends with crappy little cars we crammed into (Paul - remember going to see Chemical Bothers at Centrofly in your friend's car with 8 of us listening to Peaches?)  There's the time at Sin-e catching the guy you had a crush on totally making out with his ex-girlfriend - yeah, we didn't stick around for too much more of Grizzly Bear when that happened.  There's meeting a certain drummer from a band called Andromoda in leather jeans at another Chemical Brothers show at Hammerstein.  How about the time your friend dragged you down to CBGBs to see some old punk band - yikes.  All the times I've gone out to see friend's play at Fontana's, The Delancy, Pianos, Merc Lounge, Cake Shop, Luna Lounge and many many more.

Here is the thing I will never get old of: Truth.  I'm not just talking about when you're friend levels with you.  When a band is on stage and they're not trying to be cool but instead the music is driving them to this much more private place and for a moment you are there too.  And the same reason you have to download that song and listen to it at just this or that moment all becomes clear - and you feel like maybe there was a part of you there at that moment when that sond was being written - like it was written for you or about you.  I have a friend whose "All My Friends" by LCD Soundsystem brings him to his knees.

Its okay to get lost sometimes.  Its okay to listen to a song on repeat 20 times in a row.  Its okay to do quotes from a movie and go on opening night even if it means you go at 1:30 am on 42nd street.  To feel all this is what life is 'hear' for.
